Do you ever feel overwhelmed by all the “stuff” in your life? Old “stuff”, outdated “stuff”, unused “stuff” or new”stuff”? Do you ever wonder where to put it all? Organization is the key to making a household functional and in turn easing the stresses associated with clutter. Here are a few simple steps to ensure a clutter-free home:

1. Do a little each day. Prioritize the areas you want to tackle first and start there. By doing a little at a time you will not become overwhelmed with the task at hand.
2. Delegate. Everyone in your family, in one way or another, contributed to the disarray that you are now facing so everyone must contribute to fixing it.  Set up a “Chore Board”  with daily, weekly and monthly responsibilities.  Rewards may be given, if you choose, for those tasks completed well and on-time.
3. Purge. Get rid of things you no longer use.  The rule of thumb is that if you haven’t used it in 6 months or more you probably don’t need it.  Donate it to a charity, a friend or a relative.  Throw it out!
4.  Stay on top of it. Don’t let junk mail pile up in the corner of your desk.  Pick a time of the day to go through it and make it a habit! Try to follow the rule that for every one thing new that comes into the home something has to leave.
